Over the past few years, new traditions have been started at the Levitt Shell in downtown Sioux Falls, one being The Latino Festival and Parade. This event includes music, bands, food, drinks, culture, and more. This event is free and takes place in September during Spanish Heritage Month.
This event is especially enticing for O’Gorman students enrolled in a Spanish class. Students who go are awarded with extra credit for showing an interest in Spanish culture. Students who attended this year learned to salsa dance and were able to ask the band members questions afterwards. “The band was actually really good, and I had a lot of fun learning to dance with my friends” said Freshman Shay Boetel when describing her experience at the festival. Be on the lookout next year for a way to be exposed to the Spanish culture right here in our downtown!
