This fall, students from each grade collaborated to produce O’Gorman’s annual Children’s Show: Charlotte’s Web. The classic tale about the importance of friendship was brought to life with each actor on stage. In order to participate in the production, students were required to audition, which for many could be extremely stressful. Senior Sofia Izaguirre shared her strategies when in the audition room. “Walking into an audition I like to think of being confident, just being myself and having fun!” Izaguirre said.
Despite the time-consuming nature of theater, it was quite obvious that the student actors were having the time of their lives on stage. “I love getting to know the people coming into theatre and just having fun at all the rehearsals,” Izaguirre said.
If the molding took place on stage, then backstage was where the glue was set. This past year, former technical director Mr. Humke retired, marking the end of an era for the O’Gorman theater department. Charlotte’s Web director Teresa Fester described the new changes in the tech crew. “We have been super blessed with Mr. Rhone taking over the stagecraft design and Ms. Schulte (teaches math at junior high) is doing the lights and sound,” Fester said. “I was also surprised to see some of the upperclassmen really step out of their comfort zone at auditions and now we have so many fun characters.” Despite the challenges posed against the theater department, they were able to overcome them with ease.
The Charlotte’s Web showings on Nov. 22nd and 23rd added another successful O’Gorman production to the books and provided a strong start to O’Gorman’s 2024-25 theatre season!
