The 2024-2025 show choir season is officially underway! The students have been working hard on their show, “The Good Old Days,” which features five songs, since August. Ovation recently participated in the Ralston Ramageddon competition in Omaha, where they received 6th place overall. What a great way to start the season!
The team will compete in three more competitions this year. They will showcase on March 1st at our very own Standing O! competition hosted at OGHS. Ovation will also perform for elementary school students at their schools throughout the next month. Their last show of the season is Friends and Family Night on March 10th.
Throughout the preseason and competition season, the show choir members grow very close and form great friendships. They spend lots of time working their hardest together. “From the very beginning of the season, we make sure to prioritize time to bond and grow closer as a family,” says senior Sienna Struck. This is Struck’s third year competing with Ovation. The bond formed offstage improves the performance by motivating each other to work hard and learn from mistakes.
When asked what her favorite part of show choir is, Struck said, “…definitely the people in it! I have been able to become such close friends with people that I probably would never have gotten to know otherwise.” These lasting friendships are just one of the many benefits that all members gain from participating in show choir.
Another connection created is with the parents. Struck says that without their parents, “…our show would not be nearly as high energy and well-run as it is!” They are the largest support system of the group, assisting with everything from costumes to stage setup. Without them, the show would not go on.
The hard work pays off when they perform for family, friends, and strangers, making them smile. Wishing Ovation! the best of luck for the remainder of their season!
