O’Gorman’s One Act Play has received superior rankings at the State One Act Festival every year for over two decades. This year’s cast and crew intend to continue the tradition while taking the stage with A Pacifist’s Guide to the War on Cancer. The piece, a musical comedy, is a moving piece of theatre written by playwright Bryony Kimmings. Madison Brown, a tech crew member for the play, describes the play as “a heartfelt story following the protagonist Emily and her baby son, Owen, navigating a possible cancer diagnosis.”
This year, the State One Act Festival will take place from February 6th to the 8th at the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center at South Dakota State University in Brookings. Following the performances, judges rate each play and award superior rankings to the top individuals, ensembles, and overall plays. O’Gorman’s festival performance is scheduled for Saturday, February 8th at 10:15 a.m. Students, family, and friends are invited for a preview performance in O’Gorman’s Performing Art Center on February 4th at 7:00 p.m. Admission for the show is a free will offering with proceeds going to support the theatre program.
