As the sun shines brighter and the weather grows warmer, the door opens for O’Gorman High School’s spring sports season, including boys tennis. Dozens of boys from every level assemble at McKennan Park to test their skills. In order to determine the season’s lineup, each player participates in “challenge week.” Head Coach Austin Noldner shares the qualities that catch his attention during the mini tournament: “When we have players compete against each other, it is more than just the final score. We look at the effort they put into the match and their ability to play under pressure,” Noldner says. He expresses the development he hopes to see as the season progresses, saying, “One of the most important skills we look for is the ability to listen to feedback and really work to implement new things into their game.”
Well-known for its unwavering success, the team is never short of aspiring players, and the ongoing team is no exception with its thirty players. With such a large group, a team’s chemistry becomes just as substantial as its skill. Junior Will Koziara, team captain, speaks about his objectives for the group: “As a team leader, I want to help my teammates reach their goals. Especially for our younger players, I want to help them have the greatest experience playing tennis,” Koziara says.
The team’s skill is tested for the first time this season on Apr. 8 at McKennan Park!
