The 2025 High School Baseball season has begun! Bats are in full swing as the players ready themselves for a season filled with competition, teamwork, and fun.
O’Gorman Baseball has become a prominent club sport within the O’Gorman community. The program, which is directed by the varsity head coach, Dan Hughes, is divided into three teams: Freshman/Sophomore, Junior Varsity, and Varsity. The players on each team not only reflect the hardwork and determination necessary to the sport, but also the good sportsmanship that is expected of all O’Gorman athletes.
Over the years, the Knights have secured three State Titles (2010, 2012, and 2019), and this year’s team is determined to continue that legacy. “I am most excited for what I think we can accomplish this year,” said senior Brogan Moffitt. “We have a great team and I’m very excited to see how we’ll come together.”
The season opener for the O’Gorman Varsity Knights took place on Mar. 27 in Lawrence, Kansas. In the midst of fierce competition, the Knights secured one win against the Park Hill Trojans with a score of 7-6.
On Mar. 31, the Knights faced the Washington Warriors at the Sanford Sports Complex in Sioux Falls. Victory was secured by the Knights and the game ended with a score of 1-0. Juniors Bennet Duncan, Paxton Sohn, and Isaac Tobin were key players throughout the evening. Duncan pitched a total of three innings, Sohn pitched a total of four, and Tobin went 1-2 with an RBI that brought in the winning run.
On April 3, the Varsity Knights bested the Lincoln Patriots with a score of 12-7. Seniors Rylan Arbogast, Sullivan Schlimgen, and Jack Sundvold lead the team to victory. Arbogast pitched a total of four innings complete with six strikeouts; Schlimgen went 2-3 with a double, a triple, and three RBIs; and Sundvold went 1-3 with a double and 2 RBIs.
