Girls golf kicked off on March 25, with their first meet April 11 at Spring Creek.
Gold has been going on for years as a classic O’Gorman sport. O’Gorman students participating in golf have found it to be a great way to stay healthy. The O’Gorman girls golf team is a great way for students to connect through their love of golf.
Practice for golf is Monday through Thursday from 3:30 to 5:15, where golfers specifically focus on putting, “because it will really affect your scores,” freshman Preslie Sampson said.
The girls golf coach, Tom Jansa, has been golfing since he was 12-years-old. “I love competitive golf and being able to help the team reach its potential,” Jansa said. “Golf is generally an individual sport, so when you get a chance to play together as a team, it is a really fun experience.”
Golf has altered many students’ lives for the better, including Paydyn Peterson, a senior on the golf team. “I’ve learned the importance of keeping my cool and staying calm after a bad hole or round,” Peterson said.
The state championship for golf will be held June 3-4 at Hillcrest Golf and Country Club, where up to six golfers are chosen to participate. The chosen golfers will compete against many different golfers from all over the state for the beloved title of State Champion.
