The Lady Knights soccer team has started their season off well. Before the games even began, the ladies put in a lot of work on and off the field. They started the season with a team-building community service project for Sleep in Heavenly Peace. For this project, the players built over 30 beds for those in need.
Then they began their season out west, playing Rapid City Central and Rapid City Stevens. The ladies left Rapid 1-1 on the season, competing against two tough opponents, winning 2-0 against Central and losing 0-5 to Stevens. After these games, Coach Sheila Diercks stated, “We have had a strong start to our season. I am hoping this strong start propels us throughout the season.”
Continuing with this optimism, the ladies have played two other games, one against Brandon Valley High School and the other versus Washington High School. During the Brandon game, they played through a continuous downpour of rain and were able to pull out a nice 1-0 victory. Then, in a tough match against Washington, the ladies unfortunately lost 0-1.
When asked who she thought the toughest competition would be for the Lady Knights, senior Chloe Fritz, stated “Harrisburg; however, we have high expectations for the season and hope to work through our current rough patches in order to be able to compete with this team.” Coach Diercks is extremely excited for the Lady Knights’ season and hopes “to be as competitive as possible. Taking each game in stride and playing our best quality of soccer deep into October.” Good luck to these Lady Knights as they battle through their season!
